Birthday celebrations have changed in our home over the last few years. Many of our family and friends have food allergies and food intolerances, so the concept of a traditional "birthday cake" just doesn't make sense for us any more.
A mini cake along with a variety of different cupcakes has become our new "birthday" tradition. I received my first cake stand as a birthday gift from my daughters a couple of years ago and now I have a collection white cake stands that I use for sweet tables and birthday parties. I recently created some reusable liners to use on some cake stands for my daughter's birthday.
They were so simple to make using items I already had on hand.
The kraft wood grain wrapping paper (called "Into the Woods") that I designed for Creative Bag last year is still one of my favourite prints. I'm sure that I will be reusing this liner a number of times this year both at home and the cottage.
Here's how I made my cake stand liners ....
Gather your supplies: cake stands, wrapping paper and/or scrapbook papers, self-adhesive laminating sheets, plates to trace, scissors.
1. I used assorted sizes of plates and bowls as templates to draw perfect circles onto my wrapping paper. Test out different sizes of plates on top of your cake stands to find a size that works. Using a pencil, trace the circle shape on the back of the wrapping and cut out using scissors.
2. Following the directions on the self-adhesive laminating sheet, laminate the circle and smooth out using your hand or a bone folder.
3. Cut the liner so that you have an even clear edge all the way around the paper.
4. Repeat to create more!
Note: I bought my self-adhesive laminating sheets at the Dollar Store. You should be able to find them at any store carrying stationery supplies.
